OpenAI just released GPT 5.6 on July 9th, as a successor to GPT 5.5, which was released last April. GPT 5.6 is split into 3 major tiers, Luna, Terra, and Sol, and supports a 1 million token context window.
## The Three Tiers Explained
- **GPT-5.6 Luna**: Ultra-fast, low-latency tier designed for high-volume agent loops, classification, and simple coding tasks.
- **GPT-5.6 Terra**: Mid-tier workhorse balancing intelligence and cost.
- **GPT-5.6 Sol**: Full reasoning flagship model competing at the very top of ARC-AGI-2 and LiveBench.
